Dan Liu

I adore a well-designed mini-dress and Dan Liu killed it with his 2017 Fall/Winter collection. The patterns, colors and just-right length make these perfect to wear solo or layered with tights or leggings.

Lavanya Coodly

City chic never goes out of style, especially when it’s done so well. I’m digging the full collection from Lavanya Coodly and her bold pops of color.

The graphic prints for Acid NYC were definitely head turners on the runway. Every look was bold and fun.

Workwear Style: Terese Sydonna Dresses & Daya Shoes, Just Say Yes!

Dressing professionally in the Summer is always a tricky balancing act. You want to look like a total Boss – perfectly put together with a bit of flare – without turning into a hot sweaty mess by the end of a day. If you’re like me, you like to keep your workwear style simple and fun enough to be able to go from the office to a rooftop patio for an after-hours cocktail.

Two brands that I’m digging right now for my summer style fix is Terese Sydonna and Daya Shoes.

First of all, the Jamaican-born, New York-bred, Terese Sydonna‘s River Collection is everything right with fashion right now. Her Ursula Print 2-way Zip Tulip- Skirt Neoprene Dress ($375) is super fly, comfortable and an ideal choice for just about any business related meeting.

Titan Industries-16

I love the soft flower detailing and dual-zipper that you can adjust to show as much leg as you want. But of course, I like to keep it classy.

Titan Industries-14

I’m also a sucker for dresses with pockets that don’t look like wings about to take flight.

Titan Industries-5

The dress is just as sleek and stylish in black and could be your LBD Summer go-to.

Titan Industries-9

I also feel in love with the Hurricane Skirt ($395) which is a great choice for those creative work days and Friday afternoons.

Titan Industries-8 I paired the colorful skirt with a throwback crop Tommy Hilfiger jean jacket, but it would also look amazing with a crisp white button up shirt or black tank.

Titan Industries-13

The new Sole of Daya shoe line by – the actress, singer and mogul in the making –  Zendaya is also a perfect pick for Summer.
Titan Industries-3

I paired these garden inspired pumps ($79) with an oldie-but-goodie Calvin Klein fit-and-flare dress.

Titan Industries-2

The multi-color pattern would look fabulous with just about any outfit and would add the right amount of pop to a LBD.

Titan Industries-1

I’m normally not big fan of leopard, but this pair Sole of Daya heels ($79) just spoke to me. Why not add a touch of the wild side to your wardrobe this Summer;)?

JCPenny Partners With Project Runway Winner Ashley Nell Tipton & Launches New Plus-Size Brand

Well, this is exciting. JCPenny has nabbed Project Runway winner Ashley Nell Tipton and is launching its first-ever plus size fashion brand designed exclusively for full-figured women.

Ashley Nell Tipton 1Tipton you may remember, is the first plus-size designer to win Project Runway and whose positive personality and chic eye for style brought back a level of excitement to the show that we hadn’t seen in years.

19094

The new line, Boutique+ will be available in 500 stores and at JCP.com starting May 1. Tipton will design two capsule collections for line and serve as brand ambassador.

19093Tipton shared, “I am thrilled to be a part of the JCPenney Boutique+ brand launch. I look forward to infusing my signature style that is known for distinct designs in bright hues and bold patterns that appeal to young fashionistas looking for clothes that make them feel as good as they look.”
The chain promises Boutique+ will offer “feminine silhouettes, edgy patterns and bold colors” and will “flatter and fit curvy silhouettes.” Fashion pieces run from $12.99 for a top to 39.99 for a jacket.

Style and fit are two of the biggest issues frustrating plus-size consumers when shopping for apparel, so it looks like JCPenny is looking to alleviate these obstacles by partnering with Tipton and rolling out Boutique+.

Ashley Nell Tipton 2Considering 65% of American women fall into the plus-size category, it’s about time retailers starting catering to this important shopping bloc.

I’m looking forward to checking out the new Boutique+ line and hoping that JCP will extend some of Tipton’s designs to fit smaller sized women too. I have been rooting for her since day one, after all;).

Entrepreneur & Actress Rebel Wilson Debuts New Clothing Line & It’s Awesome

Most people know actress Rebel Wilson for her comedic turns as “Brynn” in Bridesmaids and “Fat Amy” in Pitch Perfect, but she has been an entrepreneurial force to watch for more than a decade.  The Australian native started making noise in 2002 in Sydney, when she wrote, starred in and produced a popular musical, The Westie Monologues. So, she not only created the show, but she figured out how to fund it as well.

Wilson has most recently brought that creative business ingenuity to her partnership with plus-size retailer, Torrid. The Rebel Wilson Collection, which is on sale now, puts Wilson’s, “unique style and personal loves into the clothing.” The collection includes 30 pieces and runs from $16.50 – $98.50.

Rebel Wilson Collection 1

The comedy boss was clear on why she opted to partner with the American retailer on her first fashion line. “I’ve had a ‘torrid’ affair with buying clothes all my life,” said Wilson. “I’ve never really felt like there’s a brand out there in the plus size world that is creating cool stuff, that fits well and is good quality yet affordable. It’s really only been in the last few years that I’ve seen companies try. So it was awesome to team with Torrid, who I think are doing such a great job in making plus size fashion relevant and dope.”

The Collection of loose tops, fitted dresses, accented pants, and statement jewelry is colored in blacks, whites and greys and looks comfortable, happy and chic – which is how many people would describe Wilson, herself.  Rebel Wilson Collection 2

Wilson’s sense of style, business savvy and determined spirit resonates with millions of women of various sizes, not just those 12-28. She has brought the “Rebelution” to the fashion industry and it will be exciting to watch her line (and Wilson) take over.

Celebrity Stylist Adds Sparkle to Hair Care Industry with New Line

Daniel Koye Head ShotWorking your way up to become one of the top professionals in a field is no easy task for any business maven. For entrepreneurs like Daniel Koye getting to the top is only part of the climb; being able to Improve the field is the real mark of success.

Known as one of the best celebrity stylists on The Great White Way, Koye has been responsible for styling the locks of Broadway’s biggest stars including Dame Shirley Bassey, Carol Burnett, Cicely Tyson and Carol Channing. Unsatisfied with the efficacy of the products on the market, he set out to create a professional hair care line that could withstand the bright lights of the stage for celebrities and long days & nights for urbanistas.

With the release of his new styling collection, DKOYE; he is ready to transform the hair care industry from the inside out. Ranging from $19-$50 the line includes all the products you need to keep your mane camera ready from shampoo to smoothing cream.

I caught up with Koye on the eve of the launch of his new collection to ask about his best business tips and what’s next for his growing empire:

DKoye CollectionWhat inspired you to get started as a stylist?

My mother was a huge influence on my career. She was a gifted hairstylist and had a salon set up in the basement of our home.  It was there that I first began playing with her wigs and styling them. I never stopped.

What lead you to start DKOYE?

I started DKOYE because I wanted to create a hair product line that inspired people to look as sexy as they feel. My hope is that the products will support people’s creativity, so they can have fun with their hair. I placed rhinestones on the bottles to give customers something to look forward to when styling their hair whether it’s to head out to work or for a special event. There’s something about sparkles that gets people excited.

What’s the most challenging part of running your own business/being a freelancer?

Keeping focused is a major challenge when you’re juggling so many balls. It’s your responsibility to ensure you have everything in place so that your business operates smoothly. It’s equally important to stay true to your vision and not be led astray from your goals.

What is the best thing you love about what you do?

CREATING!  I love the challenge of transforming an actor or actress into a character with hair and makeup. The entire creative process is thrilling to me. And it varies depending on if I’m working on Broadway, television or film. It’s a privilege to be entrusted with cultivating an entire look for a production. It’s many things but boring is not one of them!

What three tips would you give someone looking to start their own business?

  1. Never give up.  Slow and steady wins the race.
  2. Take risks.  You only live once right?!?
  3. Love what you do. The passion you have for your work will shine through and touch everything and everyone you encounter.

With celebrity royalty such as Vanessa Williams, Heidi Klum, Lea Michelle and Susan Lucci already using the new line, we know Koye’s advice should be followed by all those looking to take their game to the next level. And, speaking of game — you can also catch Koye on the season premiere of RuPaul’s Drag RaceHis line, DKOYE was selected to be the official hair care product of the season on Logo TV’s most popular show and he’ll be making a special appearance. This feels like the right next step for an entrepreneur looking to upgrade the masses to his sparkling collection.
